November 4, Tuesday

I found an article about the latest movie by Takeshi Kitano. It’s titled “Achilles to Kame” The story about an old and non popular artist and his wife. It sounds some artist’s biography in the class. Takeshi might be famous as a film producer and a painter in America, but he is a very popular comedian in Japan. He can be my contemporary artist for my assignment… I am still looking for who is a contemporary artist.

November 3, Monday

I did homework of art appreciation… I thought I am an ordinary person because I was excited about the election even though I am not a citizen in this country. I couldn't concentrate my attention on looking for my artistic subject today. That's my bad, but I am glad to be here in Chicago a moment will happen in front of me. How arts will change after new president? Art works and artists have been affected by politics and the times.

November 1, Saturday

Coming Monday, November 3 is a deadline for mailing my works to Japan. I rushed "Shodo" in several pieces of paper in the morning. This is one of my lifeworks that I have brought to Chicago. I have difficulty to spare a time to practice it. In addition, it’s too dry to do here. However, I want to keep practicing it because my work tells me my temper and condition that I cannot find by myself. If I have confident, my brush moves smooth and accurate. And the best piece shines like fresh chocolate.
October 31 Friday

Yesterday night, I met my friends at a restaurant in downtown. We were busy to catch up what has been happened to everyone in almost three months. They also tossed my birthday for two months late. Our sushi on the table dried out while we were talking and laughing. That was such a fantastic time. We three met in Chicago two years ago came from different cities in Japan. Soon we became good friends and began to hang around. We always talk about guys, fashion, anti-aging, family and Japan. Japan is our common point beside of we are same age. The Japanese community is very small in Chicago, especially in downtown, so I think it’s miracle I met both of them. On the way to home, the water tower, a symbol of Chicago looked so beautiful and so different. I felt warm looking at this tower.

5 day ART DIARY

October 29, Wednesday

Every Wednesday, the middle of a week I refresh my body and feeling. Submitting art homework makes me feel contented, but soon taking another one to home. Today as usual, when I came home, began to prepare a dinner quickly. Menu on Wednesdays is simple and quick because I should go out for having fun. After finish cooking, I did some homework until around six o’clock. Now it’s time to go, where? It’s dance class. I kicked out all my stress and bad things had happened to me for this week with Latin music. There is no Japanese speaker and ESL student; also no one consider if I can speak English. At the beginning, joining this class alone was an adventure. I was scare and embarrassed. Now it became my pleasure.

MODERNIST

This painting is titled "Woman III" by Willem de Kooning.
The artist painted a bare woman in almost black and white by very dynamic stroke. The object occupies most of the frame. It looks like pastel and oil painting. It’s difficult to find aloof between her and the background because lines don’t clearly divide each potion of her body. Every size of body is not well balanced. For example, her shoulder is too wide for her size of face. Also, her breast is bigger than her face.

The artist described a beauty of this woman who supposed be in front of him. Blond hair and busty body seemed her typical aspect of beauty for him and his favorite. I predict her skin was so white and smooth so that it could assimilate to the white wall. Strangely, describing this painting and this woman changes I began to thinking her beautiful.

My Loop Art Tour

The audio tour was very organized with pop up command. I recommend the audio tour before taking a walk, otherwise people will not know about the arts. And each pop up explanation prepared with a music and an interview. Loop art tour made me realize living Chicago like living with arts. I favor that there are a lot of arts around The City buildings and financing buildings where people always walk quickly away. How many people know they are passing away some famous arts everyday?

I found a fun other than arts on the way... An artistic bike?
